Schedule of Zen Practice

  • SUNDAY ZEN PRACTICE AT ROCKVILLE UNITED CHURCH, 355 Linthicum Street, Rockville MD

    7:00 - 8:30 PM

    Someone will greet you at the door. Wear comfortable clothes, sit in a chair or on a cushion. Stay as long as you are able to, but leave quietly if you leave early. Come early if you would like informal conversation or Zen meditation instruction.

    SCHEDULE

    Arrive 6:40-6:55 for welcome, newcomer greeting, setting up the Zendo and finding your seat.

    7:00-First bell starts 25 minutes Zazen (silent meditation) with Opening Verses

    7:25 Walking meditation (those who arrive late will enter the back door at this time)

    7:30: Second bell starts 25-minutes Zazen, Teacher talk or Practice Discussion

    7:55 Walking meditation/Kinhin

    8:00-8:20 Third bell for Zazen, Closing Verses

    8:20 Clean up Zendo and Community Sharing

    *A Day of Zen retreat is offered alternate months on Sundays from 2-8:30 pm with dinner break. See Retreats Schedule.

  • MONDAY CONTEMPLATIVE MEDITATION PRACTICE FOR ALL PEOPLE AT ROCKVILLE UNITED CHURCH

    4:30 -5:30 PM

    Suitable for beginners or those who want a simple silent meditation practice period after work. We sit in chairs. After first bell, 10 minutes of silent sitting in chairs, followed by a Zen reading or teaching, walking meditation, and ending with 20 minutes of zazen, tea and conversation.

    All are welcome, no experience necessary. Meditation instruction offered if desired: contact the Teacher here

  • TUESDAYS ZEN PRACTICE AT ROCKVILLE UNITED CHURCH

    4:30 -5:45 PM and 7:00-8:15 PM

    There are two Meditation Periods and Groups on Tuesdays

    1) Zen Practice Sitting Meditation, 4:30-5:45 PM starting May 27

    Zazen 25-minutes period, followed by walking meditation, another 25-minutes Zazen, walking meditation, and a 15- minute chant/instruction.

    2) Men’s Mindfulness Meditation and Discussion Group, 7:00-8:15 pm. Facilitated discussion on men’s issues, 20 minutes meditation, newcomers welcome. Based on Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings. More information HERE

  • TUESDAY EVENING ZOOM ZEN PRACTICE and COMMUNITY SHARING

    7-8 PM

    Our Joyful Mind Zoom Zendo is a warm community of sharing. Please join us.

    After opening bell and chants. we sit together for a silent 25-minute practice of Zazen, followed by a dharma talk from one of our teachers, or a student talk, or a presentation from a guest teacher. The presentation is followed by community reflection/sharing.
